Ahoy, mates!
The first month of 2009 is almost gone and we're rapidly approaching our next release, due in the next week or so. We invite everyone to get on over to the Ice testing ocean to see what's coming in that update!
After that, our plan is to turn our attention to an area we know is on many players' minds: pillaging, and what sorts of improvements and encouragements we can add to it.
While there are numerous areas in which pillaging could be "updated", internally we are currently exploring two key areas:
We'd be interested to hear your thoughts and comments on this. We've started three threads in the forums for your feedback:
We'd love to hear your thoughts as they relate to these three areas, and we hope to see you on Ice in the next few days as we ramp up toward our February release!

Woot!
The mechanics of pillaging? Gaah.
First: I need to resume pillaging so that I can get some firsthand experience with the current mechanics, as well as the changes going on Ice.
Second: Why didn't I get this in my email? I'm supposed to be on the mailing list :-).

So, Ice is in need of testers? Any chance of opening up to those who have bought doubloons / subscribed previously (maybe even just in the last 6 months or so?)

Whooooootssss. These changes are desperately needed to get those few "training crews" out of the corner back into the main stream where they belong. It is not the "old elites" heading for Atlantis and CI who keep the game alive and growing, it is the new officers who are properly trained by the "old non-elites." Thank ye, Hermes, this is hope for me who stubbornly refuse to buy into the "elite culture" ... and I say this as the currently #1 battle navigator on Cobalt who got there with pillages that often include real greenies ... who may be next year's legendaries.

As of this weekend, interarch sloop and baghlah pillaging is broken in ways it has never been (legendary bnav, 3rd most active bnav in 3rd most active crew). Whatever changes were made, it went from bad to worse. Spawn rates are bad (3 battles in 2+ hours despite excellent dnav) or spawn strength (win-los-win-los-win-lose) was off as each win was "easy" and each loss was "crushing", pay averaged 200 poe/pirate/battle with little or no jobber churn, jobbers/crew range learning-incredible with low excellence the average. Each of 3 pillages was a 10K loss as a 25% restocking fee did not cover expenses. Just when ye think there is hope that pillaging receives attention, it gets from bad to worst. What is going on? Are the few legendary pillagers willing to take greenies and less experienced players out punished for doing so? This is how it feels. I am very much lost at the present state after well over 3 years of almost daily pillaging ...

Thank you for showing interested in a sensitive and age-old issue such as pillaging. In ten days we provided more than 400 suggestions, now I fell it would be about time to give us a feed-back about what has been proposed so far, like I also stated here: http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?p=1785289#1785289.
You are doing a great job and we would like to co-operate even more fruitfully, if you only gave us the chance to do so.
Thanks.

Thank you SO much for your attention to pillying and making it more fun. When I originally join YPP, that was ALL I wanted to do...it was the most fun on the ocean.
It was quite discouraging to see pillying utterly dessimated as the enjoyable casual past-time of choice by various mods (that made it less fun and profitable) and more interesting and rewarding feature additions.
I'll be honest: I quit the game a year ago because I was so frustrated with what pillying had become. I really believe if you restore pillying to the fun thing it used to be, you will see many old pirates come back to the ocean...I can promise at least one.
