Summer Games 101: Crash Course

2008 Pirate Summer Games

The Pirate Summer Games are now in full-swing, and although we've seen tremendous participation so far, it seems a few of you are still a bit confused about how the Games actually work. I suspect ye soft noodley types have been spendin' a wee too much time with the rum bottle, but we'll go over the Games once again for good measure!

Teams

You're randomly assigned to one of five teams, each named after a different Greek mythological beast: Cyclops, Gorgon, Cerberus, Hydra, and Minotaur. Check the competition tab on the notice board to see your team assignment.

Competition Board Team Icon

"I don't like my team, can I change?" No, and quit yer whining! You should accept your team with open-arms (but no scratching with that hook-arm!) and fight as hard as you can!

Scoring

You can score points for your team in one-on-one battles or by winning any number of Puzzle Competitions (see schedule below).

To score points in one-on-one battles, challenge anyone on an opposing team to a game of Swordfighting, Rumble, Treasure Drop, or Drinking. Win the battle and score points for your team!

Puzzle Competitions

You can also score BIG points for your team by participating in the daily Puzzle Competitions.

You'll receive notice in your Ahoy Panel that a Puzzle Competition is starting; click join to enter yourself in the competition.

You must play the puzzle in the competition at least once — so if you enter yourself in a Bilging competition, find yourself a bilge station and start pumpin'! Only your highest score will be entered in the challenge, so puzzle as much as you like before your time is up!

Events Schedule

Puzzle Competitions are broken up into two parts — The Festival of Piracy and Final Events. During the Festival of Piracy, prizes will be awarded to players based on rank: so the top incredible, top excellent, top good and top fine players will all receive prizes. During the Final Events, the competition stiffens: prizes will only be awarded to the top four players, regardless of rank.

View the full events schedule here: Festival of Piracy, Final Events.

Now enough readin' already! To the Games!

Seville? That's a new one on me. Would you like an egg? Also, there doesn't seem to be many pictures of you. The buns are easy enough, but what sorts of hats and shirts do you like?

/e wanders of to find which ocean her team (Minotaur) is in first place, but stops to add a comment. "Only your highest score will be entered in the challenge" seems a bit misleading. I know I entered the carp competition on Midnight and as typical for me, was across the board. I earned several of each level from fine to incredible in the 30 minutes allotted and actually ended up winning in the 'Good' category.

Thank you for clarifying this for the 'soft noodled'. The Games are a great idea and having participated (a little slow on the uptake), can say that this is a fabulous idea. 10 / 10 for the Ringers and apologies to the OMs for all the whining about how we do this and lack of stations. Thank ye for listening to our gripes, Puzzle Pirates RULEZ !!!

I have a question. I've challenged other pirates from opposing teams and won and I've also participated in the puzzles but when I go to the competition tab in the notice board it still says I haven't participated. Why is that? Have I really not participated or is this an error?

where do we go to enter in the competition? Can we challenge any pirate? How exactly is it done? Oh and for good measure, whats the fastest way to get a fleet officer badge? cause my crew and superiors are all dormant, and i want some responsibilities--it's kinda hard to run the crew of Chilled Water on Hunter Ocean if ur the only one not dormant and u dont even have a badge... Help would be greatly appreaciated and rewarded...hint

Haphestus - You enter from the tourney boards or from your ahoy tab right before it starts. You can challenge any pirate (but I recommend one from a different team) best way to do that is from the tables at the inn as random walkup challenges usually aren't taken very kindly. As for your being a fleet officer, I'd suggest a change in crew if there is no one left to promote you.

Isn't there any way to avoid the annoying pop up in the ahoy panel? I nearly lost a sea battle because it popped up, while I was manoeuvring from a gunning station. (And I have no intention of participating in the Summer Game)

Thanks for posting full instructions. I too have Jezzell's problem where my competition tab says I have not yet participated. Though I did join the Gunnery competition days ago and then gun with the navy for the full 30 minutes. If it read more accurately: "Participated but sucked", I might have been less confused. Then again, you never know with us soft noodley types.

Is there ever hope that we'll get a leaderboard - like a DR for everyone who participated?

i love the idea of having a summer competition but i found it hard for me to win the contest, i joined most all of them and got a good duty reports, i even got excellent and incredibles but never won. the fact that there are lots of competitors, makes the chance to win less. i wish there could be other easy to win contest so that everybody will be given a chance to win and remember the summer competitions, specially having portrait.
